TULIP MANIAC

Welcome to the Gordon Cheung NFT ecosystem. We are proud to present our very first NFT release on the Ethereum blockchain – Tulip Maniac – a free for all gift for our lovely friends and supporters.

All you'll need is an OpenSea account or an Ethereum Wallet. If you don't have one, we will walk you through the process below. Happy holidays!

From paintings, digital prints, videos, AR to NFTs – the tulip is a recurring symbol in Cheung’s works. The 2008 credit crisis was a global apocalyptic event that led to finding out about the first financial bubble in recorded history, which was Tulipmania. During the Dutch Golden Age prices for some Tulip bulbs reached the price of a house, and then dramatically collapsed in February 1637 – considered to have been the first recorded speculative bubble in history. The tulip became an icon of this impulse; a surreal metaphor of the madness of crowds. The institutions that caused the credit crisis often compare Bitcoin to Tulipmania seeing it as a threat to the system.

The NFT collection explores histories that span over 380 years with the first recorded market bubble and crash called “Tulipomania” during the Dutch Golden Age that marked the birth of global modern capitalism to today’s mass adoption of blockchain technology epitomised by Bitcoin as a pillar of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

DO YOU HAVE AN OPENSEA ACCOUNT OR AN ETHEREUM WALLET?

NO WALLET? NO PROBLEM. FOLLOW OUR 5-STEP GUIDE TO GET SET UP.

STEP 1

Before you get started, make sure you are on your computer to start this process. Head to opensea.io and click the wallet icon in the top right corner.

STEP 2

You will see a list of wallet providers to choose from. We recommend metamask.io. Select MetaMask and install the browser extension. Keep in mind that MetaMask is only supported as a browser extension in Chrome, Firefox, Brave, or Edge.

STEP 3

Select “Create a wallet”. Set your password and carefully read through the safety instructions outlined on the MetaMask website. Follow the guide to make an account. Your 12-word seed phrase allows you to access your account if you ever lose your password so keep it safe – we recommend writing it down somewhere offline.

STEP 4

Once you’ve created your account reload the OpenSea homepage and click MetaMask again. This time, you can immediately connect your MetaMask wallet and will create your OpenSea profile in this way.

STEP 5

And that’s it! You will be redirected to a profile page with a blank profile picture and name (it will come up as “Unnamed”). Copy the code underneath the name to the box below.

Prefer videos? Check out OpenSea's tutorial below. If you have trouble setting up your wallet, don’t hesitate to send us a message or DM us on Instagram.

ENTER YOUR ETHEREUM WALLET ID BELOW.

WHAT IS AN NFT?

In the simplest terms, NFTs transform digital works of art and other collectibles into one-of-a-kind, verifiable assets that are easy to trade on the blockchain. NFTs are pieces of digital content linked to the blockchain, the digital database underpinning cryptocurrencies such as bitcoin and ethereum. Unlike NFTs, those assets are fungible, meaning they can be replaced or exchanged with another identical one of the same value, much like a dollar bill.

NFTs, on the other hand, are unique and not mutually interchangeable, which means no two NFTs are the same.

Think of Pokémon cards, rare coins or a limited-edition pair of Jordans: NFTs create scarcity among otherwise infinitely available assets — and there's even a certificate of authenticity to prove it. NFTs are typically used to buy and sell digital artwork and can take the form of GIFs, tweets, virtual trading cards, images of physical objects, video game skins, virtual real estate and more.

WHAT IS A CRYPTO WALLET?

A crypto wallet is an application or hardware device that allows individuals to store and transfer digital assets like cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens. You’ll need one to purchase NFTs on OpenSea.

Unlike a normal wallet, which can hold actual cash, crypto wallets technically don’t store your crypto. Your holdings live on the blockchain, but can only be accessed using a private key. Your keys prove your ownership of your digital money and allow you to make transactions. If you lose your private keys, you lose access to your money. That’s why it’s important to keep your hardware wallet safe, or use a trusted wallet provider.

WHAT IS OPENSEA?

OpenSea is an online marketplace for buying and selling all kinds of NFTs, whether art, music, or gaming. Think of it as the Amazon, eBay, or Etsy for NFTs. The marketplace supports more than 150 different payment tokens, so the platform's name is appropriate. For an introduction to the NFT world, OpenSea is a great place to start.

WHAT IS METAMASK?

Metamask is a crypto wallet- it allows you to store and transact Ethereum or any other Ethereum-based (ERC- 20) tokens. You do not register it on a website, but rather install it as an extension to your Chrome or Firefox browser.

What really makes you the owner of your wallet is a private key. It is a sequence of letters and numbers that are used every time you make transactions as well as help prove ownership of your tokens. Private keys are absolutely sacred. If anyone learns your private key, they can use it to steal your money.
