Broke Commandments alludes to an episode of the Old Testament (Exodus 32:19), during which Moses smashes the tablet of stone inscribed with the Ten Commandments. Cheung's technique, an act of violent inscription, here creates the image of destruction. Gustave Doré's illustration of this Biblical verse (c.1858), an engraving that has been widely reproduced and circulated on the internet, is the original image on which this pyrographic laser etching is based.
