GORDON CHEUNG & JONATHAN SELIGER
20 September
- 3 Jan 2010
Curated by
Elaine Berger
The museum’s Contemporary Gallery features the work
of two important artists working today: Gordon Cheung and
Jonathan Seliger. As a metaphor for the dominant global economic
ideology, Cheung uses Financial Times stock listings as the
ground in his multimedia images. His paintings are virtual-reality
environments that comment on the ability of stock exchange
numbers to deliver a “promised land” to people’s
lives. Seliger works with paint and canvas to produce three-dimensional
structures. His works are included in the collections of the
Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art and
the Brooklyn Museum, among others. He has exhibited throughout
this country and in Europe and Asia. The exhibition is organized
by Elaine Berger for the museum’s Contemporary Collectors
Circle.
